So :iconlostthyme: has scanned in her latest notebook doodles (see [link] and also [link] and... I'm too lazy to go looking for older ones).  Well, two can play at this game - LITTLE DOES SHE KNOW* THAT I HAPPEN TO HAVE A STACK OF RANDOM OLD NOTEBOOKS (and the occasional... notebook pages ripped out of notebooks?  Past me, what was that for?) AS WELL!

So you've all seen 'Thyme's whimsical but perfectly sane and generally carefully shaded and detailed drawings - now you get to see my version of random scribblings.  I've made a new category in my gallery specifically for these pen and paper sketches (I had a few before** but not enough to justify its own folder) so that you all can stare in complete befuddlement at... I'm not even sure what most of these drawings are supposed to be.  Seriously, this stuff is pretty crazy. [link]

*She actually does know since we talked about it, but I don't let facts get in the way of my madman ramblings.

**If you stumble across any of these, could you mention it to me so I can move them all into this new folder?

As promised, here are your answers (and one question) for the meme you commented on!

1. Tell you what character you remind me of.
I can't think of a specific character so much as a character trope, so... you are the Insane Artist! Your work is very diverse, you can breathe life into a well-developed theme (I've like just about every Ozymandias/Kadish piece you've done) and your sense of humor in writing is just offbeat enough to be hilarious. :XD:

2. Name a color you remind me of.
Yellow. Gehn's-uniform-yellow.

3. Tell you what flavor/smell you remind me of.
Hm... grapefruit, I think. Just sour enough that you have to grin while eating it. :D

4. Tell you what classical element you remind me of.
Lightning! You're a brilliant, branching bolt of lighting that is amazing to look at and blows trees into thousands of burning pieces. =P

5. Ask you a question!
You've done some interesting political jokes and references to historical figures, both prominent and obscure, particularly in your Muro pieces. If I remember correctly, you've also collaborated with Shinkansen/~htilden42 on some pieces with a similar flavor. What inspired this, for you?

6. Tell you something I like about you.
Your sense of humor! Like in the meme in your Journal just above this comment, you have a way of turning questions on their heads, and you're a master of clever non-sequiturs.

7. Give you a nickname (whether you like it or not ).
Gehn Aitrusson. Because I can't think of a nickname that adequately describes you.

8. Name an object that is to my right or left.
My keychain! Currently attached are a 4GB USB stick, a SD/Micro SD-to-USB adapter, a house key, cards with barcodes for the YMCA, GameStop, and the local library, and a car key.

9. Dare you to post this in your Journal!

Intriguinggg...

To answer the question:
Political and historical jokes... the first of those was this wasn't it? Um, well... I wanted to draw some penguins, and I drew some penguins, and the first crusade came to mind from those penguins. Tada!

( That's how a lot of my art happens, actually. I do stuff at random, then I do stuff at random, then suddenly complicated stuff (themes, details, plot, etc.) exists*. It brings to mind the (slightly NSFW) memetic owl tutorial. )

Historical/political drawings gave me some purpose for the penguins - with a variety of different things to draw (like smacking things with flags, crowns, swords, dancing - all with an actual reason for their existence in the drawing), so they stuck around. Also, you guys liked them, and I liked them - and that's how I decide which art experiments to keep doing. That's why muro-penguin-histories** are still going strong, and abstract-human-faces-with-ambiguous-verbs-next-to-them have basically vanished from my submissions.

I probably have a bit more experience with old school political cartoons, random history discussions in general (history was another big interest of mine), and the like - but none of those was really an inspiration for the penguins or other historical mentions.

So yeah, the basic answer to your question is... magic space aliens.

*Some day I'll have to figure out some way to post a sort of time lapse of me doodling in a notebook or even in muro - so many completely different things get drawn before the final drawing crawls out over the bodies of its dead predecessors.

**And even things like carpet owl.
